The Stables
The Stables - Luxury holiday cottage in the stunning Peak District
Reviews
Perfect for a couple, in a fabulous location. Cosy, modern and appointed to a very high standard.
Our 5th stay during the past 4 years at Rocking Stone Farm, perched above the lovely village of Birchover. The Stables adjoins the larger Rocking Stone Cottage accommodation. Both have great views of the Stanton estate, and are surrounded by trees, fields and birds. So peaceful!
Owned by the lovely O'Rourke family, Rachael and Gerry provide a genuinely warm, helpful and unobtrusive welcome. We always make great use of their current info for walks, pubs and things to do. Equally welcoming are their dogs, Charlie and Jeffrey, their horse, Razzie, and pony, Cracker.
Great Dales Public Footpaths in all directions from right outside The Stables. Two pubs, The Druid Inn and The Red Lion, are barely a 10 minute walk away (there are no shops in Birchover, though). Bakewell is just a ten minute drive.
The Stables “studio” accommodation was created in 2022, to the very highest standard, comprising a heated flag stone floor - which we didn't need at all during our mid-February stay - with lots of light from the large windows and (electric) Velux skylights. A log burner with plenty of free logs. A Samsung TV with FreeSat and an Amazon Firestick, plus a DVD player. There’s even a Scrabble game provided. The 2-seat fireside sofa is very comfy. The kitchen area comprises a 2 "ring" induction hob, fan oven/grill, toaster and kettle. There’s a comfortable large double bed, and a fabulous 'wet room' waterfall shower. There are two, small private patios to relax on.
What did we do during our four day stay? Walks, e.g. Baslow Edge and Carsington Reservoir. A wander round Bakewell, and the now “arty” Wirksworth. Plus, pubs: we recommend Sunday Roast at The Druid – you need to book. Our favourite pub was the traditional, cosy Marstons pub, Ye Olde Gate Inn, in Brassington. Tip: do seek out the only "true" Bakewell pudding at The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop in Rutland Square / Bridge Street, opposite Seasalt.
Please note:
We don’t accept dogs or children between 1 and 6 years. Thank you for your understanding.
